Overpopulation = Moon/Mars?

Does anybody actually think that would be a realistic fix? If we were even capable of colonizing celestial objects why can't we just colonize the parts of the Earth that we don't live on? The Northern half of Canada for example >_>

would make too much sense, i think they need to focus on seed ships and longer travel in space and find an earth-like world, as terraforming a planet is a bit beyond our reach atm.

I think if we were capable of developing space ships that could traverse that kind of distance we would able to just make self-functioning megacities on the surface of any of these inhospitable areas.
